  1. You guys all love mouse-over macros. Personally I have never tried them, mainly because I use the Clique add on. But 1 thing I have noticed is that my macro slots are all full. So even if I wanted too I wouldn’t be able to easily without 1st trimming down some of my already existing macros.

Essentially Clique does the same thing as mouse-over macros but without using up all of your macro slots. It works with all unit frames and I highly recommend it. Clique is available from curse. http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/clique

Great show and keep the awesome stuff coming.

    1. Holy moly! you have no macro space left between two tabs of macros?

It should be noted that you do not need to have 2 versions of a macro for any one spell, you can add the mouse over function into any existing macro (assuming it’s applicable: i.e; any Healing or Damage Dealing). This will allow you to use it as you always have before, *in addition* to being a mouse over macro.

Most of my mouse overs always have a fallback built in so that they’ll still function as normal even without the mouseover. In fact you can build in several parameters all at once, and the macro will attempt each in the order you specify until it succeeds at one of the options, then skip the rest and cast the spell. (You could use Target of Target, mouseover, self, focus, target, shift or control modifier etc. before casting spell 1, spell 2, spell 3…. all in 1 macro)

That is great that Clique supports Mouse Over casting though. I haven’t used it personally for a long time, but it doesn’t matter if the addon is allowing hover casting or not, it is still a “Mouse Over” macro at it’s base from what I’ve seen in the example images (image 2 of 3 on curse). It’s just using the clique interface to create them instead of the /macro interface, and using Clique to set the key binding instead of the game’s default Key bindings menu. Are you using Clique for mouseover DPS or CC or as well? If so, How?

Good post Elamari, thanks for bringing it up, I’m not sure that anyone has pointed out that Clique can do more than click casting. Vuhdo also supports macroing through their interface, Do you by chance know if Vuhdo allows for a similar type of self-interface macro building that supports mouseovers?

In the end, you don’t need any addons to do any of this, it’s all available using the tools in the game. Many folks don’t know how to use these tools at all (or are simply unaware they exist). With a little effort and learning, you can significantly improve performance. I always say “If it helps you do better, use it” 🙂

  2. I originally got clique when I started healing on my holy paladin. But I have intergrated it into my feral druid for things like decurse (or remove corruption), innervate, battle rez, cyclone and entrangling roots. It’s more of a utility thing on my druid, but on my paladin and other healers it’s all I use for healing.

I’m sorry I can’t tell you anything about Vuhdo, I have never used it.

Do you know if you can write mouse over macros to work with the mouse scroll wheel? I know on several of my characters I have spells bound to the mouse wheel with clique.

    1. How do you use Clique offensively, does it provide enemy unit frames, or just allows you to create a macro with a keybind that you can use on enemy avatar/target/focus?

Yes you can bind mouseovers to any key, mouse button or scroll wheel. In the default macro interface, it’s basically creating your own spell, then adding any options you want to it, then you drag the spell onto any action bar button on your interface.

If that action bar button is keybound to a key, mouse button (any multi button/gaming mouse with extra buttons) or scroll wheel, then it is now bound to that action. By pressing the key, mouse button or scroll wheel it will.

Example recreating the exact effect entirely with the default settings:

        – I create a hover macro for a mouse over on a friendly unit and it Rejuvenates, when mouse over on an enemy it Moonfires.
        – I drag the spell icon from the macro spellbook onto an action bar button.
        – In the keybinding menu, i find that action button spot and set keybinding to “scroll wheel (Up/down or press etc. really any key you prefer”
        – Now, in game if moused over an enemy it Moonfires the enemy, if moused over a friendly it rejuvenates the friend.

The mouse over’s hover will detect friend or enemy through any unit frame, raid frame, UI frame, 3D avatar. If you see a tooltip when you hover over something, the mouseover option will work in the macro. Since you’ve keybound the scroll wheel to the action bar button that has the mouse over macro on it, now your scrolling will activate the spell based on the first condition it meets (hovering over a friend or foe).

      Does that answer your question?

      1. Yeah it does. After I posted my comment, I thought you would just bind a key to a bar spot then mouse over and activate the binding.

Clique works offensively the same way you would use it defensively (i.e. healing). It works with any unit frame, blizz standard, enemy / friend, target / focus etc… Modifiers also work with clique.

Another advantage of clique, is that you don’t need bar space for the bindings you set. They are stored in the background.
For example, on my paladin, I have all my heals, hands, decurse etc… bound with clique. I then have wings, kings, devine plea, judgement etc… on my bars. So I don’t need to have my heals / hands on a bar.

Clique also allows me to have an enemy targeted for judgement usage and still use my mouse for healing via unit frames (personally I use grid, but the standard frames with the addon for icons would be just as good). It allows me to use both my hands for different things.
        With clique
*use mouse hand for healing, hands, movement, dispell
*use keyboard hand for cooldowns, judgement, movement

        With macros
*use mouse hand to mouse over
*use right hand to activate macro

I believe it is a better set up, however my view is biased as I have never use mouse over macros in anger. But I feel that the advantage of being able to do two different things with different hands is a big enough advantage.

        1. Hey that’s great news to hear! I don’t quite understand the “anger” part, but I agree that a combination of both MO macros and an addon that allows you to click for other functionality, all the while being able to use additional keybinds either on your keyboard or the mouse, can effectively double access to your available actions/spells. I also expressed this sentiment in the podcast as well 🙂

Thanks so much for your continued discussion!
I may give click a try. I’m most interested in not having to set the keybind to an action bar button and how I might use that if doing so would make a difference in play or not. Does it also extend your library of macros beyond the game’s default macro interface?

Also, I apologize in that almost this whole discussion, I was thinking “Grid” the whole time we were talking about “Clique” hence why I was confused about some of the functionality. My head is on straight now. 😉

  3. Haha the angry comment must be an Australian term. It means I haven’t used it in action yet.

As far as macro libraries go. Where clique stores its settings is different from where player macros are stored. So it doesn’t extend or modify the default macro options. On my paladin for example I have 12 clique bindings and 9 character specific macros.

Actually I do use grid. But from what you guys were saying about that add on for the standard blizz raid frames that shows extra buffs/debuffs, I might give that ago.
Grid is just the default for me because I have been using it since early WOTLK.

    1. Hmmm…. This has piqued my curiosity enough that I might consider checking clique out.

Thanks for the input. Always appreciated!

      Hend
