Episode 27 – Shado-Pain Monastery

We had TWO voicemails today! TWO! Those led to discussing stuns and agro as well as Hunter macros for tricking those dirty, dirty melee. Then we get into everyone’s favourite (would I lie to you?) 5-man dungeon, the Shado-Pan Monastery.

  1. Macros discussed in the show today.

    Planting your farm:

    /target Tilled Soil
/use [mod:shift]Master Plow; Seed of Choice

Hunter Macro to confuse dirty melee:

/raid Attention Melee, Hunter Buff is active, Stand next to the hunter for 100% haste, Crit and Damage buff!

  2. Found your show by following the link at the Realm Maintenance website, and I’m glad I found you guys. I never thought to use a macro for farming, but i have started using the macro from this show and I can’t believe how easy it is. I have 4 max lvl characters all with 16 plot farms and the issue was that they all plant different crops of the special seeds, so I added to the macro so that it would work for any of my characters depending on what seeds they have in their bags:

    /tar Tilled Soil
    /use Songbell Seed
    /use Magebulb Seed
    /use Enigma Seed
    /use Snakeroot Seed
    /use Windshear Cactus Seed

  3. That farm macro is great.

With regards to stuns / tanking etc… You can use them in a different light. If you are a dps and you DO pull aggro, you can use your stuns, slows, snares etc… to stop the mob reaching you and give the tank some leeway to pick it back up. Or if you see someone else pull aggro help them and the raid out. Having this kind of raid awareness will make you a better player. Being a good raider isn’t only about dps numbers.

As at tank I have used my stuns on creatures that I have lost aggro on to stop it running away and give me some time to build up some more threat. In today’s WOW this doesn’t happen very often because of the buffs to threat and vengeance.

    Just food for thought.

  4. You need a warning or disclaimer on your podcast. This episode almost killed me!
I was taking a drink and started laughing while Rob and Taylor talked about pulling that boss while building Chi. I was trying to catch my breath for the next five minutes.
Great show! Keep up the good work.

  5. Love the episode as usual but did have a cringe-inducing moment when you were discussing hunters accidentally pulling aggro with pets during stampede. Hoofit mentioned that this is bad because after a tank looses aggro to a pet, a dps might pick up aggro with a big crit. This isn’t the case. If the tank has an aggro lead on the raid and a pet taunts, this brings the pets aggro level up to the tank (as opposed to bringing the tanks aggro down to the pet). Both tank and pet will still have a significant aggro lead on the raid and after the pet dies, aggro will return to the tank no risk of dps picking it up. The overall comment is still valid (hunters – turn off taunt) but wanted to make sure this didn’t confuse anyone’s understanding of aggro.

Thanks for the show and keep up the great work!
